The Colonel Louis Watres Armory, built in 1900 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is Slonem's latest project, showcasing the artist's innovative approach to interior design – the combination of vibrant, multicolored interiors with a collection of historically significant and rare objects from around the world. This system of "Collectorating," collecting and decorating, has become Slonem's trademark and can be found in the many historical objects the artist has placed around the country. Over its hundred-year history, the 102,000-square-foot building has served not only as an armory but also as a performance venue for Russian composer and pianist Sergei Rachmaninoff, as a venue for campaign appearances by presidents, and even briefly as a clinic. Gatekeeper: World of Folly takes the reader through this masterpiece, room by room and object by object, filling us with the sense of awe for which the artist is so well known.
